Gen. 07 2017. In prison again says L.A.Times. In the last three days various newspapers heavily underlines Manson has not been a model prisoner, breaking rules and stuff. Ask myself why.

Aquarius and Manson music: Look at your game, girl?

Aquarius is an American television series starring David Duchovny and premiered on May 2015. The series is inspired by Charles Manson story and I decided to write some words about that because there is a lot of Manson music in it. In the first episode Gethin Anthony, the actor who plays Charlie Manson, sings with his own voice Look at your game, girl... not so cool, to say the truth. Well, actually I can't find clips with Gethin singing that song but I've found this on Aquarius Soundtrack 2015 Youtube Channel and I need some help. The song sounds like the original one, the guitar seems to be the same... but the voice... Is this Charlie? Listen to the original one here: Look at your game, girl and then you decide. 

Charles Manson Musical

I really hate musicals... really. Of any kind. But the ones I despise more are those which talks about Manson story using horrible music and without knowing anything.

Well, I have to talk about Manson music and I should not concentrate on garbage... but this time I want to share it anyway.

The video you're going to watch is from the german musical Charles Manson: Summer of hate - Das Musical. Well, even if I appreciate they tried to use original Charlie's songs, I think the cover of  "People say I'm no good" is a little disturbing...

And this is the original song by Charlie... can you feel the difference??? 

Look at your game, girl.

Have you ever heard about Charles Manson song Look at your game, girl? Of course yes. Probably it's one of his most known song. And there are two reasons for Look at your game is so famous: First, it's beautiful... second, it's been covered in 1993 by Guns and Roses and published as ghost track in their album The spaghetti incident?. I don't know what Charlie thinks about this song, or about the cover by Guns...but I know he has recorded two versions of it. And I love both.

Charles Manson "How could I do" & "The irony of life"

Well, now I'm going to tell you about two very rare and beautiful songs by Charles Manson: "How could I do" and "The irony of life". These songs come from Ancient VVisdom's 12" Inner Earth Inferno, released in 2010 by the label Withdrawal Records. The brilliant artwork of the album is by Star, the girl that recently was going to marry Charlie.

"How could I do" and "The irony of life" are incredibly well recorded and edited, and surprise: Charlie's guitar seems to be electric or similar....

Charles Manson sings Frankie Laine

Hello everybody. Today I want to introduce all of you to a beautiful song: Swamp girl.
The song was written by Michael Brown and skillfully sang by Frankie Laine in the 50's. Charles Manson music culture especially comes from those years and that's why he covered this song in 1967 during his famous first recording session.
Down here you can listen both the two versions. Needless to say, I really love Charlie's one... even if he can't remember all the words!

I've found a video on Backporch Tapes Youtube Channel. It's an old pirate footage taken in Vacaville Prison many years ago and it's very special because it shows a small live session of Charles Manson playing guitar. And that's very, very, very rare... Unfortunately the full tape is impossible to find anywhere so this time you have to make do with this cut version...

I tell myself I am my own hell

That's a new and very rare Manson song found on HamburgerHobos Youtube Channel. It comes from a recording of a prison call. Very low-fi. The song looks more like a poem, no music, just chanting and I decided to title it "I tell myself I am my own hell" as Charlie sings in the last part of the recording.

Rare, new and unpublished Manson song

Today I'm very happy to share with you a rare and probably impossible to find elsewhere Manson song found on Backporch Tapes Youtube Channel. The song has been taken from Vacaville Medical Facility Chapel recordings and it has been probably composed between 1981 and 1985.
The video comes from an interview with an italian journalist for the TV show Italia Sera.

And that's the interview dubbed in italian where Charles Manson also speaks about his music. Enjoy!

Look at Your Love live!

As many of you probably know the recordings of the so-called Manson Family are only two: The Manson Family Sings The Songs Of Charles Manson and The Family Jams. Few know that in the early '70 the Manson Family recorded hours of music for Robert Hendrickson's "Manson" documentary but the audio tapes remain dramatically buried in a vault. 

In this video four Family girls sing a very rare live version of Look at your love in front of the Courthouse; this song can be heard in its original version both in The Manson Family Sings The Songs Of Charles Manson and The Family Jams.

Come molti sapranno le registrazioni della cosiddetta Manson Family sono raccolte in due album: The Manson Family Sings The Songs Of Charles Manson e The Family Jams. Pochi sapranno invece che nei primi anni '70 la Famiglia si riunì allo Spahn Ranch per registrare ore di musica che sarebbe stata usata da Robert Hendrickson per il suo leggendario documentario "Manson", ma i nastri con le incisioni furono drammaticamente distrutti da un incendio. 

In questo video quattro ragazze della Family cantano una versione live molto rara di Look at your love di fronte al tribunale dove Manson veniva processato; questa canzone si trova nella versione originale sia su The Manson Family Sings The Songs Of Charles Manson che su The Family Jams.

  

The Other Side Of Madness

The Other Side Of Madness has been released in 1970 by Auric LTD to be sent to radio stations to promote the movie The Helter Skelter Murders (aka The Other Side Of Madness). The 7'' has been pressed in a very limited edition and contains two Charles Manson songs: Garbage Dump on side A and Mechanical Man on side B both from the album Lie: The Love and Terror Cult.

Even if the movie was pure sensationalist garbage, the 7" had the merit of promoting Manson music in radio stations not only in USA but in Europe also.

The Other Side Of Madness viene prodotto nel 1970 dalla Auric LTD per essere inviato a diverse radio come disco promozionale del film The Helter Skelter Murders ( o The Other Side Of Madness). Live at San Quentin

Live at San Quentin has been released in 1993 on english label Grey Matter in three versions: cd, yellow or red Lps (these last in a very limited edition). The title of the album parodies that of Johnny Cash 1969 Lp Live In San Quentin and the cover concept comes from The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. As many people know Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys was a Manson friend and he also recorded with the band the cover of Charles' Cease to exist for their album 20/20 changing the title of the track in Never learn not to love.
Recorded in 1983, Live at San Quentin songs are apparently unstructured, with jazz, blues, scat, bebop influences and just flow into each other.
From the inner sleeve: "Due to the unconventional nature of this recording a conventional tracklisting is unsuitable. Track separation is provided at regular intervals to enable the listener to locate a particular segment."
Live at  San Quentin comes from two almost impossible to find cassette tapes: Saints are Hell on Earth and White Rasta.

Live at San Quentin esce nel 1993 per l'etichetta Grey Matter in tre formati: cd, vinile rosso e vinile giallo (questi ultimi in tiratura assai limitata). Il titolo dell'album richiama quello di Johnny Cash Live in San Quentin mentre la copertina riprende con una certa ironia quella dell'album Pet Sounds dei Beach Boys, una band con la quale Charlie ha avuto diversi contatti e che, grazie a Dennis Wilson, ha persino inserito la cover della sua canzone Cease to exist nell'album 20/20 reintitolandola Never learn not to love. La registrazione è del 1983, quando Manson si trovava nella prigione di San Quentin. La qualità dell'audio è piuttosto bassa e come si accenna nel libretto interno al disco le canzoni sono un flusso continuo e sono state divise solo per venire incontro a chi le ascolta: "Due to the unconventional nature of this recording a conventional tracklisting is unsuitable. Dopo Lie questa è probabilmente una delle registrazioni più vecchie di Charles, i pezzi hanno influenze jazz, blues, bebop con improvvisazioni vocali tipiche del canto scat. 

Le registrazioni di Live at San Quentin provengono da due cassette autoprodotte e quasi impossibili da trovare: Saints are Hell on Earth e White Rasta.
